So there was a power surge that caused my computer to restart, and when it did, my bookmarks were gone. That included many entry point/sign in addresses of the different blogs/boards I go to and a lot of blog addresses that are not yet listed in my blog.

You should use Deliciuos(http://del.icio.us/) to store your bookmarks online so that you're safe from such accidents plus you can access these bookmarks from anywhere.
that is something new i heard of :O, IE going kapoot with electricity.
if you have multiple users for windows xp.. check the user from which you signed in.

Acro, It was firefox, some file in use may have been crupted, scan disk did mention few files with errors
